Paint Chip Pieces

By the Pond

The first time I went to that pond I was going to just sit and have some peace and quite.  The pond was actually blue back then.  As the years went by people started abusing the pond and the animals living in it. It started with kids throwing their trash in to the clear blue water.  As this continued the water turned murky and green and some of the wild life started dying.  A local chemical company, called Ace Chemicals, started asking the city council if they could dump their waste in the pond, thinking that all the wildlife was dead because there was so much pollution already.  The city allowed this to happen because they where under the same assumption that all the animals in the lake had died or relocated.  No one knew, though, that there was one frog left in the pond when Ace Chemicals started dumping the waste in, and that frog would mutate and change into something terrible.
I had just started as a cop in the town where this was taking place, and I was the only one that saw it coming.  After people started going missing in and near the pond I started to investigate. And that's when I first saw him.  He was giant, taller than any man, and he was green.  He was the frog that stayed.  I saw him lurking in the deep, almost like he was watching me, and waiting for something.  I knew then that he was the reason for the missing people and tried to tell everyone about it but no one believed me, they all thought I was crazy.  Then the day came when he was ready.  Ace Chemicals had an unusual amount of waste that day, and was like it strengthened him.  He destroyed everything, some made it out alive but we lost a lot of people to the monster.  Now that everyone fled no one goes back for fear that he will come out of the pond again.  The town is now a ghost town, and the Frog Kings domain.

Acrostic Poem

                    Summer is over, and simply
                    Put
                    It's nice the weather has
                    Cooled down.
Everyone is wearing jackets now, and the
                    Days are getting shorter.

                    Pumpkin patches are opening
                    Up again, and that really
                    Makes it feel like fall.
People are spending more time outside, trying to
Keep time from taking the season away.
                    In short, Autumn is
                    No ones least favorite season.

7 Line Poem

A first morning dew in Europe is something to behold.
Seeing it on an acre in Scotland
from a summer house is calming.
The dew itself makes the grass look vintage,
not courtly like it is when dry.
The dew magnifies the color, becoming almost noble.
It looks like a racing green.

Object Papers

Today I read stories about everything from a necklace to taking plane rides with a grandparent.  They where all interesting in there own way, and where written with a lot of voice.  One of the papers I read was pretty interesting because it had to do with an idea opposed to an object, which was cool to read.  Everyone of the papers I read was about a memory, object, or idea that the writer held close to their heart, and they where all good reads.

The Wgi Patch

The WGI Patch
The whole season has lead up to this moment.  Some of the members are getting anxious, some are getting excited for world championships.  As we all walk to down the tunnel into the University of Dayton arena we are in quite anticipation of what is going to happen when we step out on that floor.  As we get to the bottom of the steep tunnel the drumline all gathers into one big circle.  We pray for a good performance, and no matter what the score is, we pray we have fun.  After the prayer everyone is exchanging hugs with each other, congratulating them on the season.  As the seniors and the parents get emotional so does the rest of the line because we know that this is the last time that this specific line will march together.  We hear the sounds of the group preceding ours drums cease, and the cheers that follow.  We start to push the equipment on to the floor, and see the arena from the floor.  The arena is bright and the stands are packed, and the nervous excitement sets in even more.  Performing the show for that big of an audience is such a rush it is hard to remember some of the details, but the drumline did well and had fun, and that’s all that matters.
After getting all the equipment out of the arena and back to our bus the members ecstatic.  Performing for a crowd that loves drums and cheers for everything they do, was one of the best experiences of our lives, and even though we still have to go through the hassle of trying to pack every marimba, vibraphone, and xylophone on to one bus we all know that these moments are special, and will not be forgotten.
The fun is not over though, after packing everything up we go back for the finals retreat, which is where every drumline that participated gets together and waits to be called out on to the floor, for the second time, to receive their placement and plaque.  As we stand in a line at the beginning of the tunnel we went down not a few hours before the mood is all changed, everyone is excited and happy and ready to get down the tunnel and walk out on the floor again.  As our name is called we all walk down the tunnel together until we get to the same spot where we had our prayer, and continue on to the floor.  The arena is dark now, with two spotlights going around the arena, occasionally shinning on some of us, as we walk to the place where the drumline stands in a single file line with all the other drumlines to receive their placement.  The process of building up every groups score before actually saying it takes a long time, especially with fifteen groups that made it to finals, but once the announcer says ninth place everyone perks up because that’s what we had got the year before.  We get excited now because the announcer has said Kickapoo got eighth in the world. Everyone is happy we at least did better than the last year and our captains go up and receive the award.

After we get back we all get finalist patches to put on jackets or whatever we want, and every time I see mine I’m happy I got experience those amazing times.  It was one of the best experiences of my life.
