The Free Bird Poem

The free bird is not bound to this earth
He can leave it for the sky when ever he feels
Everything to him is temporary

Fleeting the earth may be, but the bird can leave it for things above
Relieving his hunger for something more
Earth is not his home, but for now he will stay there
Emptiness is all he feels without the sky

Blissfully he flies
Ignorant of the things below
Ready for what lies above
Dreadfully, he anticipates his landing

  1. These lines are especially beautiful to me:

Earth is not his home, but for now he will stay there
Emptiness is all he feels without the sky

  2. This poem was great. I liked how the bird felt lonely not being in the sky- I always imagined flying as more of a solo event. I also enjoyed how you really took the bare bones of Maya Angelou’s poem and re-created the feelings that she portrayed, through different words of your own. I thought that it was interesting that the bird thought trapped on the earth and yearned for something more. I haven’t ever thought of leaving this awesome planet, but sometimes I want to leave school so maybe that’s close enough? This poem was a pleasure to read. Great work.
